Why people love it

Fine, silvery hairs cover every leaf, making the panda plant feel like felt. Rusty brown spots edge the tips. Kids love it, and it’s a great way to show that “succulent” doesn’t have to mean smooth and waxy.

Care in a nutshell

  • The fuzz is functional. Those hairs shade the leaf and reduce water loss. Don’t wipe or wet them.
  • Water the soil, not the leaves. Wet fuzz dries slowly and can encourage rot.
  • Warmth matters. It’s less cold-tolerant than many succulents. Keep it away from cold, drafty windows in winter.

Watch out for

  • Leggy, leaning growth: rotate the pot and give it more light.
  • Dropping lower leaves: a few is natural aging. Many at once usually means too much water.

Fun fact: In the wild in Madagascar, panda plants grow on granite rocks, where the fuzzy leaves help them survive intense sun.
